And it’s the “old” part of this that really drove me to the new tricks.

In the last Underfoot episode, the pack found a safe place under a bed. So, that’s where I need to photograph them – under the bed.

Which means that I have to lay my camera on the floor, get on my knees to set up the scene in front of it, and then lie down on the floor myself in order to take a shot. And then, get back up on my knees and fiddle with the shot, and then lie down on the floor and take another shot.

Need I add that there is no carpeting in my bedroom, wherein is the bed that they reside under? No, I need not.

As you might imagine, if you put sound to these shots there would be an awful lot of old woman groaning. So, I learned a new trick. I’m shooting with a Nikon D7200 DSLR, and there’s a Nikon app that pairs that camera with my Android tablet. Using this setup, I can look through the viewfinder on my camera just by looking at my tablet, and take the shot with the tablet as well.

That means that I never lie down on the floor. I just crouch and set up the scene, check it on my tablet, and then take the shot on my tablet. I’m still getting the hang of checking the focus (which, oddly, is much harder to check on the tablet then through the viewfinder), but otherwise it works well for taking photos in these hard to reach spots.

And, with that, I found a photo I like (although, again, it’s a little blurry). Here, then, Jinjur and (Scrappy? Did I name the dog Scrappy? I can’t recall) enjoy a bit of bacon and a cup of coffee.

Jinjur and Scrappy share a slice of bacon.
