I started searching for a boat for Camellia as soon as I realized she was going to reach the island under her own steam, and not simply wash up on shore.
It turns out, there aren’t a lot of boats in 1/6 scale (the scale of a Barbie doll). Aside from a few fantastic-but-way-too-pricey sailboats, there wasn’t much that I could fit a doll into.
Aliexpress listed a very promising 12 inch canoe. Since Camillia is also 12 inches tall, and since a canoe might be roughly the size of the rider, I got it for her.
But it turns out it’s scaled for a much smaller figure.
Maybe Rosie’s fairy could ride in it.
I found a nice kayak.
But there was no way Camellia would have jumped into it wearing a ball gown.
Plus, Camellia just doesn’t seem like she’d led the kind of life that would lend itself to learning how to kayak.
Don’t ask me how I thought I was going to fit it into the story, but I even got a toboggan.
Cute, but, really, what the hell?
I found a great, real Barbie speedboat for a steal on eBay.
And I even ended up doing a photo shoot with it.
But it was hell photoshopping out all of the “wet and wild” Barbie flourishes, and I couldn’t really get her into a comfortable position.
So, I ended up going with a simple, wooden rowboat.
which came with what they described as an oar
which I suspect is actually a wooden spoon.
In any case, oar or no, Camellia fits comfortably into it and she’s ready for her voyage.
